The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad Othman Jerandi met, on June 2nd 2022 in Tokyo, with President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Tanaka Akihiko.
Jerandi, who is on a working visit to Japan from June 2 to 3, expressed Tunisia’s commitment to strengthen cooperation relations with JICA, said a statement from the Foreign Affairs Department.
The minister welcomed the support provided by this agency to Tunisia’s economic development, including funding a significant number of projects in several areas, particularly in infrastructure, modern technology, energy and water treatment.
In this context, Mr. Jerandi stressed that the 8th edition of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 8) to be held on August 27 and 28, 2022, will be an opportunity to identify new opportunities for bilateral and tripartite cooperation with Africa.
The Minister invited the President of JICA to participate in TICAD 8, saying Tunisia is ready to host delegations from all countries and organisations that will take part in this summit.
For his part, the Japanese official expressed the agency’s willingness to foster and diversify relations with Tunisia.
He said he will visit Tunisia with the Japanese Prime Minister on the occasion of TICAD 8, considering it a major event to establish a win-win partnership with Tunisia and African countries.
